Picking second in the 2016 NFL draft is……. the Philadelphia Eagles? The Eagles traded out of their eighth overall selection and traded it to the Cleveland Browns giving them the #8, 77, and 100 overall picks in the 2016 draft, a 2017 first-round pick, and a 2018 second-round pick. After giving up that amount of picks the one lingering question is… do they take a quarterback? Sam Bradford has been a let down this far into his NFL career due to injury and inconsistency. Though Bradford isn’t thought of as a bust, he will continue to have a chip on his shoulder for being doubted. Eagles GM Howie Roseman spoke on Twitter this week “Let me be clear, Sam Bradford is our starting quarterback. The #Eagles will not trade Bradford,” said Roseman. This again poses a great question….who are they going to take? It is very possible they moved up to the #2 pick in the draft so they could take OT Laremy Tunsil from Ole Miss to protect Bradford’s blindside.
While the Eagles decide what to do with the #2 overall pick the Cleveland Browns are going to be selecting with the #8 pick in the draft. Cleveland fans should be concerned with the trade because while they do add five draft picks over the next few years their selections of the past 3 years haven’t paned out as they’d hoped, let’s recap: 2015 first round #13 pick Defensive Tackle from Washington state Danny Shelton. First year: 19 total tackles.
2014 first round #10 Cornerback from Oklahoma State Justin Gilbert. First year: 1 INT in two years. Not effective whatsoever. And lets not forget our boy Johnny Football. Johnny Manziel to this point in his career is considered a bust. But the Browns have a chance to turn over a new leaf and make selections in the NFL draft that will effect their team in a positive way. But who do the Browns draft? Welp, the Browns are the only team in the NFL who consistently needs help at every position. Maybe this year the right quarterback will fall in their hands(Cough Paxton Lynch cough).
Overall, both teams made this trade interesting. As for the Eagles, everyone is scratching their head wondering who they will select in the draft and what other positions they’ll fill in free agency. And as for the Browns, we’ll all just bow our heads and pray they can select someone who can get them into the end zone.
